ImportantHigh-voltage battery — fire risk (LG cells)
As on the identical Chevrolet Bolt: risk of smoke, melting and fire at the battery pack (LG Chem cells), mainly at full charge. About 1,500 Ampera-e from model years 2017–2020 in Germany. First software only (charge limit 90 %), later replacement of faulty battery modules.
Check: Ask for proof that the battery modules were replaced under the recall (workshop invoice / VIN check with Opel). A car with the software fix only still has the charging limit.
Coverage: Recall, free of charge: software with a 90 % charge limit as an interim fix, then replacement of faulty battery modules. Completion can be checked by VIN at an Opel dealer.

EV details
Distance with one ~15-min fast charge at 110 km/h (modelled).
Is it enough for your day-to-day?
One charge lasts 5 days in winter (−10 °C) and 7 days in mild weather.
Using real-world range, charged to 80 %, 10 % reserve: 297 km per charge in mild weather, 231 km in winter.
Fixed reference (roughly Munich–Berlin): leave full, arrive with a 10% reserve, and charge only what the rest of the trip needs (80% max — past that the curve goes flat). Modelled from real-world range and the charging curve.
Mild means ≈ 23 °C, cold ≈ −10 °C without pre-heating — the same for every car, so the figures compare.
What does charging cost?
| €/kWh | Full charge | per 100 km | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Home (wallbox) | €0.34 | €21 | €6.57 |
| Public AC | €0.50 | €32 | €9.66 |
| DC fast charging | €0.60 | €38 | €11.59 |
Prices from the open assumptions (adjustable in the calculator); consumption = mild real-world incl. charging losses.
Charging curve (DC)
NMC: high energy density (more range), usually charge to ~80% for longevity.
