Home charging & wallbox

Charging at home is the cheapest way to run an EV: household electricity (€0.34/kWh) versus rapid chargers (€0.60–0.79/kWh).

Socket vs. wallbox

A normal domestic socket charges slowly (~2.3 kW) and isn’t ideal long-term. A wallbox (11 kW) charges safely and fills overnight.

Costs

An 11 kW wallbox runs ~€500–1,200, with installation ~€500–1,500 depending on the work. Grants vary by region and over time — check before buying.

11 kW vs. 22 kW

11 kW is plenty for overnight charging and only needs to be registered. 22 kW needs approval and rarely pays off at home.

In the calculator

Set your home-charging share in the TCO calculator — it moves the energy cost a lot.
